#008 | Who The F*ck Is: YehMe2?
Josh Young is definitely one of the most important characters in Trap’s history. In 2007, together with Curt Cameruci, he founded the legendary duo Flosstradamus and was its member until 2016. The Chicago-based duo is considered to be the precursors of “EDM Trap”, which they started at the beginning of 2012 with a remix for the Major Lazer’s Original Don. Alongside such aliases as RL Grime, Baauer, UZ and Hucci, Flosstradamus is one of the most recognizable representatives of the proverbial golden age of the trap music.
For 11 years of joint activity, Josh and Curt cooperated with Diplo, Troyboi, Three 6 Mafia, A-Trak, Waka Flocka Flame, NGHTMRE, Yellow Claw, DJ SNAKE, Post Malone and many more. Their tracks, which in our opinion must be known by every Trap fan, are HUGE Soundclash (Troyboi), Prison Riot (GTA, Lil Jon), Mosh Pit (Casino) and TTU (Waka Flocka Flame).
The Flosstradamus project will be described in detail in a separate episode #WTFI, and now we will go straight to Josh and the YehMe2 project which started in 2016. Josh’s first solo career began with his Beat A Day Instagram series, in which he presented 30 new productions (including SOUNDCLASH VIP!) for thirty consecutive days of the month (in this case May 2016). At the end of the same year he announced that he was leaving Flosstradamus. Six months after this rather unexpected decision, he gave an interview to RunTheTrap, in which he revealed some details about this step:
“There are some factors I’m willing to discuss publicly and some that I’m not. Mainly in addition to wanting to spend more time with my family, I wanted to take creative control of my career, music and artistic vision.”
In another interview he confessed that by many Flosstradamus fans he was considered only as a hypeman, which was totally wrong. As for the duo’s production side, he was responsible for working on remixes and collaborations, and Curt was responsible for most of the original tracks.
As YehMe2 he released three parts of the Steal This Mixtape series, which gives us a total of about ninety (90) productions. The third part published last year was its final part, which he summed up with the following words:
“Here it is y’all! The third and final installation of the Steal This Mixtape series! I just wanted to say making these “beat a day” tapes has been an incredible learning experience and I’ll never forget all of y’all that supported me from the start of this project! Now it’s time to focus on pushing the boundaries with original music.”
Apart from the productions produced for STM series, Josh as an independent artist still hasn’t released any solo production! Much of YehMe2’s discography are remixes (mostly official) for producers such as Major Lazer, Party Favor, QUIX, PLS&TY, and Matoma. He has collaborated with Ricky Remedy on H.I.T.P. and Bailo – Split. At the beginning of last year his Collab EP with A-Trak entitled Skat Men was released, accompanied by a quite extensive tour of the United States and a B2B set during the HARD Summer.
funfact: Josh’s first performance as YehMe2 was the set during HARD Summer 2017, which is available on his Soundcloud profile:
Josh has already completed a tour with Whipped Cream, as well as appearances at Red Rocks, Beyond Wonderland and Trapfest. We also know that in 2020 he will release a Collab album/EP with Bailo, which they informed about some time ago through their social media..
For over seven years he has been married to Elizabeth De La Piedra, with whom he has two children – Lex and Ryder.
Many of his fans believe that leaving Flosstradamus was a very good move, and his productions as YehMe2 are much better than those released now by Curt and those released at the end of their shared adventure.
