#007 | Who the f*ck is: Kai Wachi?

Kai Wachi (Kekai Wachi) is a 24-year-old trap and dubstep producer who has been associated with Kannibalen Records since the age of eighteen. His adventure with music production began with the creation of hip-hop beats and this is what he wanted to do professionally. When he first heard dubstep, he treated it in the style of ‘that’s weird, nah, i don’t like it‘, and he didn’t like electronic music too. The first turning point in his life was the day he heard Cookie Monsta’s productions. Then he said the heavy sounds were awesome. He started to produce bass climates, which he shared on his SoundCloud. In an interview with TRILLVO confessed that it was a completely different place than it is now, and his recognition was growing quite fast. In 2013 he caught the attention of Kannibalen Records and then he realized that his career as Kai Wachi would be something serious. (fun fact) Kekai never released his track on another label.

A year later, however, happened something that his entire fanbase (then counting over 17,000 people on facebook) did not expect:

“Kai Wachi, a promising artist in the heavy bass filled dubstep and trap community, has been federally indicted for trafficking and dealing heroin and oxycodone. According to KTVB in Idaho, the indictment says since 2012 Kai Wachi and 10 others (including three teenagers) have been allegedly conspiring to and distributing heroin, as well as 160,000 oxycodone pills (the pills alone hold a street value of $6 million)” – wrote Complex.

On the thirteenth of January 2015 he was sentenced to 21 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and 100 hours of social work.

His first release after jail was RI$E, which he still considers to be one of his best productions to this day.

Since 2012 he has released six EPs – Amnesty (2012), The Feast (2013), In My Blood (2013), $KULL TEAM (2016), Die Young (2017), ICHOR (2018). In the first years of his career, he gained support from the biggest bass artists such as UZ, Borgore, Dirtyphonics, Ookay, and Bro Safari. After the release of the single DEMONS (2016), his character caught the attention of legends such as Bassnectar and Excision, which resulted in invitations to festivals like Bass Canyon and Lost Lands.

In 2017 he set off on a 27-stop tour with Black Tiger Sex Machine and joined the biggest booking agency in the United States – United Talent Agency. Interestingly, his first collaborations began last year when he released collabs with BTSM, G-Rex, and an official remix for Mirror by Excision and Dion Timmer.

The year 2019 is a decisive year of Kai Wachi’s successes, started with the release of a collaboration with Sullivan King Beetwen The Lines. On April 9th he released his debut album DEMIGOD, which features Virus Syndicate and rapper Famous Dex, and on September 19th he started his first-ever headline tour. At DEMIGOD TOUR he will play over twenty solo shows, most of which will be accompanied (as a support) by Sam Lamar, whose productions some of you may associate from ILLENIUM sets.

A quick message to the all producers present here: Kai uses FL Studio for all his productions and Massive and Serum for his sound design.

Insomniac Events describes a 24-year-old producer as follows:

“Since his first release in June 2012, Kai Wachi has been on an upward trajectory, thrilling electronic music listeners with his hypnotic sonic textures and ear-shattering basses. Never one to stay in one lane for too long, or to stick to one sound, the 24-year-old has mashed genres and crossed boundaries, and in the process gained thousands of fans among the dubstep, electro and trap lovers.”

PS Kai is The Office fan.
